Eat more to lose weight

By

Yes you read that right.

In order to lose weight and burn fat you need to be eating more often.

Scientific research has shown that eating more often e.g. 4-6 times a day can be a more effective way of losing weight than the typical 2 or 3 meals a day approach that we currently have.

With industrialisation and modern farming practices over the  past 200 years our lifestyle and the food that we eat has changed dramatically.

The problem is that our metabolism has not been able to evolve at the same pace.

Our bodies are mostly adapted to a hunter gatherer type of lifestyle and diet as in evolutionary terms that is what we have been used to for 1000′s of years.

What types of food would our ancestors have eaten, well they would have had intermittent supplies of meat and fish. Organic meat that is, from lean animals that would have been feeding on grass not the cereals that our livestock are fed on today.

To supplement the meat the hunter gatherers would have eaten nuts (high in good oils) berries and wild vegetables.

They didn’t have jobs, e-mails and TV to watch Their number 1 priority was food, so for the most part they would have spent their days hunting, grazing and eating as they went along.

In our modern world we need to get back to a grazing pattern of feeding by eating smaller meals 4-6 times a day.

By doing this we will be able to reduce the obesity rates that we see in most industrial countries.

This is very interesting and certainly makes sense. I just wanted some clarification regarding ‘grains’ – you said not to eat these – what is included in the ‘grain’ list? Also, meats – I assume the best type is organic? If this is not readily available, what should we looking for at the supermarket?

Thanks
